Rustle up a Burfi, this Rakhi - Festive Peanut Butter Squares

Leafing through a mosaic of childhood memories, you might chance upon instances that are fit for calling forth a smirk, a chuckle, or a tear. Sticky fingers that balled up for a fist fight, jellied laugh lines that morphed into frown lines..voices that rose in varying decibels, fighting over the “bigger half” of treats when Mom had stepped away momentarily. But an accidental fall that had bruised your knee had set everything right, like magic. Tears wiped by caring hands, an extra “laddu” smuggled out in the nick of time just before Mom turned the key in the door, and snuck into his pocket by the time she sauntered in. Eyes that lit up, belying every moment of tension that had passed, then danced in anticipation of another pocket of together-time, during homework, perhaps, when that "laddu" could be split between two eager mouths, with the "bigger half" handed to you, in typical, big-hearted brotherly style. In the bustle of everyday life, after all these years, a phone call or an sms might make up for forgotten, shared memories with your brother in some minuscule way, but our Peanut Butter Burfi will shatter the brittle ground in between like nothing else. Whether you’re in close physical proximity to your brother this Rakhi, or oceans away, just the thought that you poured the magic of childhood into a treat with him in mind will suffice..
